Show Caption Spotify wants to give parents more control. On Sept. 15, Spotify announced a new setting that allows users to filter out kids and family music from their taste profiles. This means music from kids animated movies, theme songs, family television shows and nursery rhymes can be excluded from a user's Spotify Wrapped, Daily Mix and Discover Weekly.
When the setting, available to free and premium subscribers, is toggled, users can still listen to and build playlists with kids music, but the streams will not affect a user's tailored suggestions. Interested in trying out the new setting? Here's how it works.
How to filter out kids music from your Spotify Wrapped Here's how to filter out kids music from your Spotify Wrapped: Open the Spotify app. Tap your profile photo in the top left-hand corner. Tap settings and privacy.
Tap content and display. Switch off the toggle next to "Include kids and family music in taste profile." When is the setting available? The toggle launches on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
It may take up to 48 hours for the change to be reflected in personalized recommendations, according to a news release. New setting works with Managed Accounts The new toggle works in tandem with Spotify's Managed Accounts . Launched in July, Managed Accounts are intended for Spotify users between 7 and 14 years old − those interested in curating a Spotify experience but are not yet old enough to have their own accounts.
Controlled by a guardian with a Spotify account, Managed Accounts offer only music and allow younger users to create individualized playlists. They also have access to Daylists, personalized playlists that change throughout the day dependent on a listener's habits, and Discover Weeklys, new song roundups dropped each Monday, tailored for users.
